Patient's Rights

We at the American European Medical Center make every effort to ensure that our patients’ rights are honoured and protected, along with their cultural, psychosocial, and spiritual values. We are dedicated to providing you with the very best in healthcare, both in terms of treatment and patient experience. We respect your rights as a patient and want you to understand your responsibility as a partner in your care.

  • You have the right to considerate and respectful care, and to be greeted by staff in a courteous and polite manner.
  • You have the right to participate in the development and implementation of your plan of care.
  • You have the right to be treated with dignity and respect, consistent with professional standards for all patients, regardless of manner of payment, race, sex, nationality, religion, culture, disability or any other factor.
  • You have the right to information about your diagnosis, condition, and treatment in terms that you can understand.
  • You have the right to refuse treatment to the extent permitted by law and to be informed of the possible consequences of the refusal.
  • You have the right to consent or refuse to participate in experimental treatment or research.
  • You have the right to make or have a representative of your choice make informed decisions about your care.
  • You are entitled to information about rules and regulations affecting your care or conduct.
  • You have the right to know the names and professional titles of your physicians and caregivers.
  • You have the right to be referred to a specialist/consultant for special care when there is a clinical need.
  • You have the right to access your medical record and to a second opinion or to have your care transferred to another physician if you are not satisfied with the care or opinion provided.
  • You have the right to a prompt and reasonable response to any request for services within the capacity of the medical facility.
  • You have the right to express concerns or grievances regarding your care to the Medical Director.
  • You have the right to an explanation of all items on your bill.
  • You have the right to be provided with information about your continuing healthcare needs after you leave the facility.
  • You have a right to have all clinical records and relevant information be kept fully updated and documented, and to ensure that personal details and records are kept confidential and protected from loss and/or misuse.
  • You have the right to choose your pharmaceutical care provider.
  • You have the right to discuss and request information related to your specific drug therapy, possible adverse side effects, and drug interactions.
  • You have the right to have your drug therapy monitored for safety and efficacy and to make reasonable efforts to detect and prevent drug allergies, adverse reactions or contraindications.
  • You have the right be provided with Arabic/English interpreter services; and all other language barriers will be accommodated based upon available of translation resources.
  • You have the right to have any complaint that you may make, acknowledged, fully investigated, and responded to as per the facility policy.
  • You have the right be protected from physical assault during your visit to the medical Center as well as have appropriate protection for children, the disabled, the elderly and/or the vulnerable.

Patient's Responsibilities

  • It is your responsibility to provide accurate and complete information about all matters pertaining to your health, including medications and past or present medical problems.
  • You are responsible for following the instructions and advice of your healthcare team. If you refuse treatment or do not follow the instructions or advice, you must accept the consequences of your actions.
  • It is your responsibility to notify a member of the healthcare team if you do not understand information about your care and treatment.
  • You are responsible for reporting changes in your condition or symptoms, including pain, to a member of the healthcare team.
  • It is your responsibility to act in a considerate and cooperative manner and to respect the rights and property of others.
  • You are expected to show consideration for other patients’ needs, especially where their needs are greater.
  • You are responsible for following the rules and regulations of the healthcare facility.
  • You are expected to show respect and to be courteous to the facility staff.
  • You are expected to keep your scheduled appointments or to cancel them in advance if at all possible.
  • It is your responsibility to pay your bills or make some arrangement with the facility to meet your financial obligations.
